MAYNARD, SHAFFER ACCEPT WYALUSING VALLEY CHAMPION AWARDS...

Myerstown PA, November 21st:  Wyalusing Valley Motorsports Park honored it's top drivers of 2011 on November 12th at the Wysox Fire Hall. The evening began with a fabulous meal prepared by Bryan's Meat Cutting of East Smithfield, PA, which was followed by drawings for two tables full of door prizes donated by many generous sponsors.

The Slingshot champions were rewarded for a season of hard work with one of, if not THE best weekly points payoffs for any weekly track's champions. Dalton Maynard took home $500 for his All Star Slingshot title and Alex Shaffer raked in $400 for his Jr. Slingshot accomplishment among other added prizes and awards.

Carlin's Auto Repair Mechanic of the Year Award: Ron Shaffer

It was announced during the awards program that the Jr. Slingshot division will not be on the 2012 schedule (except for the Jr. National Tour event) unless at least 5 teams commit to competing weekly.

Other news released at the banquet included the track's plans to slightly adjust the backstretch configuration, modify the banking, and add more clay to the surface for 2012. A new concession stand is also being discussed.

Jr. Slingshots: 1) Alex Shaffer, 2) Jared Zionkowski, 3) Kamdin Maby, 4) Leo McGurrin, 5) Abbey Price, 6) Mitch Maynard, 7) Skylar Middendorf

All-star Slingshots: 1) Dalton Maynard, 2) Jake Maynard, 3) Nick Molyneux, 4) Collin Hadlock, 5) Dustin Fassett, 6) Cody Fassett

Capping off the night was the “Big Willy Match Race”, which put the night's fast time drivers from 3 categories (WVMP driver under 12, 13 and older, and fastest non-driver) into a match race with WVMP promoter Billy Maynard. Maynard put up a $50 cash award for the winner, which moments before the event was matched by Z's Repair Service making it $100 to the winner. Jared Zionkowski took the early lead and drove away like a 410 against a bunch of 305 sprinters. Behind him, Austin Ely and Big Willy battled hard, swapping the 2nd spot several times. Ely had to settle for 3rd, with Heather Hadlock capturing 4th.
